The birth of the funny Italian opera finds great inspiration in the comedy tradition of art, which brings realistic subjects, colloquial language and entangled and hilarious plotlines even using a few characters.
David Riondino will reveal to us the close connection between two types of shows in which Italy has been the protagonist all over the world.

Il barbiere di Siviglia

Composed in just over two months, Il Barbiere di Siviglia is considered Gioachino Rossini's masterpiece. The first performance took place in Rome in February 1816 and it was probably due to the short time available that the now consolidated comedy by Beaumarchais was chosen as the subject, which at the time had already been set to music six times. In this work Rossini often makes use of musical material already used in other works, for example his famous symphony was written first for the Aureliano in Palmyra and then also present in Elizabeth, Queen of England . The Barber of Seville it was not immediately appreciated by the public, but in a short time it became a symbol of the comic opera and of the Rossini style.

The story sees the succession of comic found by Figaro, the city's barber and factotum, to allow Rosina and the Count d'Almaviva to get married in spite of the will of Don Bartolo, the girl's tutor.
